Subsidiary Rights

Subsidiary Rights are ancillary rights that are granted by an Author to a traditional book publisher which are licensed to another party or publisher. For example, first serial rights, second serial rights, book club rights, reprint rights, large print rights, audio rights, electronic display rights, electronic multimedia rights, paperback rights, foreign rights, British rights, and other subsidiary rights. Generally, a major publisher has a Subsidiary Rights Department, which controls and licenses these rights for the publisher on behalf of the Author.

We have the experience and knowledge to license these rights for self- published Authors, and/or to advise traditionally published Authors on subsidiary rights in their publishing agreements before the contract is signed with the original book publisher. If the original book-publishing contract has been fully executed, Unicorn for Writers can recommend placement of these rights and possible amendments to reacquire any rights not exercised.
